The urgency of the illness of addiction demands immediate attention. At Rosary Hall, we provide in-person assessments quickly, often within 24 hours, and clients are able to start treatment soon afterwards.
Additionally, we believe that the most effective treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) often includes attending to other critical needs of individuals. In addition to gold-standard care for substance use disorder, we also provide virtually immediate access to assessments and outpatient treatment to help individuals address their mental health needs.
Prior to founding Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity in 1952, Sister Ignatia Gavin worked closely with Bill Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith, founders of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), at Akron’s St. Thomas Hospital. Since that time, Rosary Hall has provided continuous care, treatment and hope to over 100,000 drug and alcohol dependent adult men and women suffering from the disease of addiction.
Rosary Hall places great emphasis on the clinical excellence of its staff. Led by highly accomplished physicians in addiction medicine, our team of chemical dependency nurses, counselors, social workers, recovery coaches, case managers and volunteers form the Rosary Hall family.
Every patient has unique needs in his or her personal journey to break the stronghold of addiction. Through an individual assessment, we will determine where you are in the continuum of substance abuse and develop a comprehensive, individualized plan that combine’s today’s cutting-edge and evidence based treatment options, with a compassionate, human touch. A tailored plan to fit each individual is an essential component to returning to a life free from addiction.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. At Rosary Hall, our MAT program uses Vivitrol, Suboxone or Sublocade for treatment, and the program is available to all patients, including with private insurance and Medicaid. The ultimate goal of MAT is full recovery, including the ability to live a self-directed life.
Individuals receive in-person evaluations to determine the extent of their substance use disorder and their mental health
Patients who have completed a primary rehabilitation program typically continue treatment in early recovery in the aftercare program. This is a one-hour-per-week group therapy program lasting a minimum of 12 weeks.
One-on-one meetings with a counselor or social worker to assist in achieving treatment objectives.
Intensive outpatient programs, founded on the 12-step, abstinence-based model, can be attended during the day or evening and provide primary rehabilitation services to patients who do not require hospitalization. The program typically includes four group sessions per week for eight weeks.
Integrated Care is used to treat substance use disorder and mental illness at the same time. Integrated care approaches treatment with both conditions in mind, knowing that one is often linked to the other. Studies have shown that the majority of people who suffer from mental illness have a co-occurring substance use disorder within their lifetime. At Rosary Hall, our clients are able to receive care for both SUD and mental health in the same location.

Case Management involves coordinating the continuum of treatment and care when an individual is in recovery from substance use disorder and/or mental illness. At Rosary Hall, our case managers work directly with our clients to coordinate services and resources that meet the individualized needs of each person. Some of these services include individualized treatment planning, care coordination, advocacy, monitoring, follow up and aftercare planning.
In fact, its founder, Sister Ignatia Gavin, worked hand-in-hand with Dr. Robert Smith after he co-founded Alcoholics Anonymous in Akron, Ohio. Today, Rosary Hall’s innovative efforts continue to be fueled not only by decades of proven experience in treating more than 100,000 men and women, but also by the compassion that is a hallmark of St. Vincent Charity.
